Night-Shift Bridge Girder Placement in a Congested City Center

Project Overview: Installation of a pedestrian bridge section over a major 6-lane highway during a scheduled 6-hour road closure.

The Challenge:

Working under artificial lighting with limited space for outrigger extension due to underground utility lines (gas and water).

Engineering Solution:

• Equipment: Liebherr LTM 1250-5.1 equipped with VarioBase®.
• Strategy: Using VarioBase® allowed us to extend the outriggers asymmetrically to avoid high-pressure points over the underground utilities while maintaining maximum lifting capacity.

Technical Specs:

• Girder Length: 35 meters.
• Lift Radius: 22 meters.
• Time Window: 00:00 to 06:00 (Completed at 04:45).

Result: Road traffic resumed 1 hour early. The project received a commendation from the City Department for minimal noise and disturbance.
